Help Ruby Walk Again: Support Her Recovery

Meet one of my favorite girls, Ruby Bouton. The last thing any loving dog parent wants to hear is their precious fur baby is suffering with pain, discomfort, immobility or even paralyzes. Ruby started showing signs of discomfort in her rear left leg and experienced difficulty walking. Before Ruby could be seen by her veterinarian, she quickly escalated to great pain and discomfort. She was not able to walk or lift her backside. It was scary and heart wrenching.

Ruby was immediately brought to Fetch Speciality and Emergency Veterinary Center in Fort Myers, Florida. After examination, it was suspected that Ruby may have IVDD (Invertebral Disc Disease). A Spinal condition where the cushioning discs between the spinal vertebrae bulge or rupture putting pressure on the spinal cord. An MRI would need to be obtained and follow up with a neurosurgeon. Dr. Levin was highly recommended, and an appointment was made with him in Bradenton, Florida for the next morning, February 24, 2026. Once the MRI was performed, suspicions were confirmed. Ruby had a stage 5 IVDD condition and besides disc fracture, compression and paralyzation she was bleeding internally. Ruby was given a 22% chance for full recovery and immediately rushed into surgery. Surgery and Recovery Room was approximately 3 hours, and Ruby had to stay at the hospital overnight. Ruby’s surgery was successful for stopping the bleeding and repairing the disc and spinal cord. Ruby was able to come home the next day with now a 70% chance for a full recovery. Bless the Lord! Ruby’s expenses to date have been over $10,000.00 and will continue with after-care, therapy, and equipment.

Ruby has the sweetest soul and has a dream life with two sisters, Gypsy and Millie and her humans, Jeff, Dyane, and Austin Bouton. Ruby is Austin’s loyal companion and best friend. Ruby enjoyed life every day, either running around with her sisters, spending time with Austin, bird watching with Jeff or snuggling with Dyane. Many people who have met Ruby know her genuine love and great personality. She always has a friendly greeting for everyone, with a smile, kisses, and tail wags. She is a perfect cuddle bug and is stunningly beautiful with her natural black eye liner eyes. Ruby is 3 years old and will be four on April 15, 2026. She has provided and continues to provide so much love to so many people.

  • There was no question for the Bouton family, when Ruby was suffering to help her in any way they could. Ruby is worth all of this and much more. Jeff and Dyane have been there spiritually and financially for so many people, friends, and strangers, through the years as well as many organizations. They would never ask for help, however your kindness and generosity will help Ruby immensely and will never go unappreciated or unnoticed. Ruby is family and my Finnegan’s best friend. Ruby is a determined fur baby that wants to live life to the fullest and she deserves it. Please be a part of the fight to help Ruby walk again and enjoy a long life with her family. Thank you for considering helping at this difficult time.
