Definition of Ruby Bostic... a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, friend, caregiver, listener, observer, someone who gives just the slightest touch to a patient that makes all the difference... a nurse! She is all of these words and more. For 21 years she provided compassionate care to many elderly patients, held their hands as they transitioned to their final peace, sang throughout the halls to comfort and became that person to calm a patient with Alzheimer’s. Imagine going in for a routine procedure only to awaken to the sheer grief of your husband who has been told there was a tumor and immediate treatment would be needed. Ruby had recently downsized her work hours to go back to school to further her career. Due to this downsizing of hours she was no longer eligible for her cancer benefits, short term nor long term disability. Her medical insurance would be canceled if she couldn’t work a certain amount of hours to keep her active employment status. How do you work if you’re required to have radiation and chemotherapy BEFORE surgery in order to try to shrink the cancer within? Please help support her journey to healing.
