Help Ruben with Expenses from motorcycle crash
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Yaninis Ortega, and I'm fundraising for my father, Ruben Ortega, for his surgery and medical expenses that our family cannot afford even after insurance. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
On Saturday, Feb 5th, it was a nice clear day out, so my father decided to take his motorcycle to work. We only live about 5-7 minutes away from his job. after a long day at work, my father finally clocks off, and by this time, it's about 9:33 pm roughly. As my father traveled east on Santiam Hwy, he was cut off by a car going west from the middle lane. Those of you who aren't familiar with Santiam Hwy consists of two roads going east and two lanes going west, and there's the middle lane. My father had the clear right of way when the other driver cut him off on a straightaway road, causing my father to impact her car directly and send him flying/rolling 104ft from the initial place of contact. After the first initial hit, my father's helmet came off, thankfully saving his life. But my father did suffer multiple lacerations to his head. There were many witnesses, and the person in the accident never came to check on my father; instead, she decided to proceed and park her car and stand off to the side with the rest of the witnesses in the dutch bros line. The ambulance showed up alongside APD, where my father was immediately put on oxygen and rushed to Corvallis hospital. He was put into a CT scan and an MRI. They found he had a broken femer, shattered pelvis, disconnected sacrum, and many other injuries requiring stitches and medical attention. My father waited nearly two weeks to receive a bed for his back and pelvis surgeries waiting on legacy in portland and finally received one in Riverbend Springfield where just yesterday he received his surgery, and thankfully everything seems to be in the right place for now; he's in immense pain at the moment but his fighting the best he can. Now the next step is physical therapy to relearn to walk . His pelvic bone was shifted, and one side is higher than the other, which means he'll never walk the same again. my father has been a waiter most of his life. It's what he knows and is the sole provider for our family. To know that he will never walk the same again is heart-wrenching and makes us wonder what we will do to provide. My father, in this situation, leaves both of my parents disabled, and my younger sister is only 14 years of age.
We pray for his full recovery, but this isn't something that will happen overnight or even a few months. The doctors say it'll be more than a few years of healing, and the bills have begun to pile in. it's always hard to ask for help, wondering what people will say, but at this point, we were out of options. For years my father has served our community, whether it be a friendly smile, good conversation, waiting on tables, serving fresh and warm food not just at work but to the homeless on nearly a daily basis. Especially during the pandemic, he donates to charities every month and tries to make a difference every day of his life. I understand times are tough, but anything would genuinely help, no matter how big or small a donation or simply a prayer. We'd genuinely appreciate it as a family from the bottom of our hearts. May God Bless.
