Help Rubén Dario (Paola's Brother) Fight Leukemia

This fundraiser is launched by Paola Soliz, our loving Au Pair in Chicago, and sister of Rubén Dario.

I never thought I would have to write this, but here I go. On Friday, June 13th, I found out my younger brother, Rubén Dario, was in the hospital for a headache while I was in the US on my exchange program. At first I thought it would be a minor intervention, but to my surprise the worst scenario became real. My mom and dad, Carmen and Freddy, called me and said the most painful thing I have ever felt: My brother was diagnosed with Leukemia. My brother has been going through chemotherapy since June but based on his progress, he will need a bone marrow transplant that is not performed in my country, Bolivia, which means we will need to seek treatment in Brazil.

I have created this GoFundMe to support my brother, who is battling for his life. As the oldest sister, I want to do everything I can for my only brother. My parents and I need to take my brother to Brazil to ensure he receives the treatment he needs, and where I can be his donor. However, the cost of the treatment is very high and we cannot afford it.

Freddy and Carmen are my parents. They are the most loving parents I could wish for, and it hurts me so much to see their pain for not being able to ease my brother's suffering. Rubén Dario is a person full of life, always around his community, helping others, but now it is hard to recognize him. I just wish one day I can see him again pursuing his dreams and not feeling any pain.

This fund will go directly toward supporting Rubén Dario with flights, accommodations, cost of transplant and treatment. Every contribution, no matter the size, gives us hope to make this transplant and his path toward recovery come true.
