Help Royce Get to Life-Changing Surgery
Hi, my name is Cynthia, and I’m Royce’s mom.
Royce is five years old—the kindest, most resilient, sweetest little boy, and stronger than any five-year-old should ever have to be. For most of his life, Royce has struggled with eating and digestion in ways that never quite made sense. His symptoms were real and persistent, but they didn’t fit neatly into one clear diagnosis, which made the journey to answers long and often frustrating.
After years of testing, procedures, and unanswered questions, Royce was finally diagnosed with achalasia, a rare and serious condition that affects how the esophagus works. In simple terms, his esophagus does not move food properly into his stomach, making eating and drinking extremely difficult and, at times, painful. Because achalasia is rare in children, it often goes undiagnosed for long periods, even when symptoms are present.
Because of the complexity of pediatric achalasia, the surgery Royce needs is highly specialized. He will need to go to Children’s National in Washington, DC, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery on February 9. This procedure offers Royce the chance at real relief, improved nutrition, and a better quality of life.
To get Royce the care he needs, we must travel from Texas to Washington, DC, and remain there for approximately 5–7 days for surgery, recovery, and follow-up appointments. This includes:
• Flights to Washington, DC
• A rental car
• Hotel accommodations
• Food and daily living expenses during our stay
These expenses add up quickly, especially on short notice.
Asking for help is not easy, but advocating for my child always is. Every donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward covering the costs of travel and lodging so Royce can receive the care he urgently needs. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page or keeping Royce in your prayers means just as much to our family.
Royce is brave beyond words. He deserves comfort, healing, and the chance to simply be a child without pain or fear around eating. Thank you for standing with us, supporting our family, and helping us get Royce where he needs to be.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Cynthia
