HELP ME RAISE MONEY FOR “HIPPO”! MY EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOG

Dear friends and family.

As you may already know, I’ve been struggling with multiple mental health diagnosis’ throughout both my childhood and adult life. These past few years have been particularly difficult, and the serious deterioration in my mental health has inhibited my capacity to function: to work, exercise, socialise with friends or pursue my love for writing and performing as a musician, all of which were a central part of my identity and wellbeing.

The good news is that I feel that I am on the road to recovery: I have a great mental health team on board, a clearer diagnosis of my condition, a totally supportive family, and for the first time I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. In light of this progress, my psychiatrist has recommended that I adopt an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) puppy in order to take the next step in my recovery.

If you’re not familiar with emotional support animals (ESAs), they are pets that provide companionship and comfort to those experiencing common conditions such as depression, anxiety, phobias, and PTSD. After months of research I finally feel I’m ready to begin the process. I have now started looking more closely at breeders that feel right to me, both ethically and appropriate for my condition.

But as anyone who has looked into adopting puppies, it is not cheap to obtain the right sort of dog as an ESA. And because of my condition, I simply haven’t been able to work and save up to adopt one. My parents are willing to contribute, of course, but they have been funding my treatment for more than two years – and mental health therapy, hospitals, and medication are not cheap – so I don’t want to burden them any more than I need to.

Im looking to find a little bit of support from other networks, by setting up a GoFundMe, so that anyone who wanted to make a small contribution could do so.

My birthday is coming up on September 7 and my goal is to raise and earn enough money by that time to be in a position to buy my new pup with the help of anyone who would be so kind to donate. 

The money raised will go towards adopting the dog, as well as vet costs- desexing, food and toys, as well as special ESA training. If I’m lucky enough to receive extra donations, it’ll all be put towards my recovery treatment. Any money to help me and my family would be greatly appreciated.

 

I realise that economic times are tough right now, so if you’re unable to donate then of course, I understand. No pressure. This is really for those who want to help and are in a position to do so. Ive had lots of people who have expressed their interest in donating so I thought using a platform like GoFundMe would be an easy route to go.

But whether you can or you can’t, I would love you to be a part of mine and Hippo’s journey, as she helps me hopefully make the last steps to becoming a functioning (well, sort of) human again!
