Help Roxy after Kidney transplant

Hi, my name is Roxy and I am 28 years old.
My kidney journey began in Sept 2017 when I had my first diagnosed of chronic kidney disease. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind 5 years with a lot of ups and downs along the way. In 2017 my kidney function was around 47% and managed by a lot of medication – steroids and immunosuppressants. Then in 2018 I found out I had undiagnosed bowel disease – ulcerative colitis. It was concluded the undiagnosed ulcerative colitis was one of the main causes of my kidney disease.
One of the hardest things about living with this disease is that most people have no idea how sick I am.
Between 2019-2021, after trying lots of different medications I was pretty stable, then all of a sudden, my kidneys took a turn and dropped to 20% function in September 2021. After 5 months of more steroids with little improvement of my function still isn’t improving.
My consultant has now recommended a kidney transplant and we have started looking for a match.
Being so young, with an active life and job, and wanting to have a family of my own with my new husband, we have decided a transplant is the best option for me opposed to going on dialysis. With things as they are, it is most likely I will need a transplant by the end of 2022. Until this point I am determined to live my life as normally as possible and am saving as much as I can for my recovery. All the money we raise here will only be put towards this.
I’ve been totally overwhelmed with the kindness and support I have received over the years. It has made this journey a lot easier to process knowing I am surrounded by a wonderful husband, extremely supportive family, friends and lovely colleagues. Working with Complete Pilates has helped me massively throughout this last 5 years. Teaching my clients is what I love the most and when the time comes it will be sad to take a break from work to recover post-transplant. But I know I have the full support from my clients and colleagues, which will motivate me to come back stronger than ever.
I will need to take around 4 months off of work but this could be longer due to the nature of being a Pilates Instructor! I am trying to raise money which will help support my partner and I with our normal household bills, as well as some of the extra things I will need post op. It will also cover my post-operative rehabilitation until I can come in to see the team at Complete. This will take the pressure off my partner but also me so that I can return to work when I am fully capable.
I want to take this moment to thank everyone who has helped me and supported me on the journey so far. I appreciate it more than anything.
Thanks xx
