Help Roxie with her IVDD journey
Donation protected
We are raising funds to help us cover the outstanding vets fees from Roxie’s IVDD surgery. Insurance will cover £6,000 however the MRI and surgery has been quoted at £7,500. This won’t cover her aftercare and physiotherapy when she is home, and as the insurance would have been used up for her surgery.
For some background, we have another frenchie, Vinnie, who went through the same surgery and struggles in 2022. So we are fully prepared for what is ahead, although we know it will be a tough journey and we want to give our Roxie the best chance.
On Sunday 6th, Roxie (normally a very high energy dog) didn’t really want to move, was very slow and kept herself to her bed. We kept an eye on her as this was out of character, she was eating and drinking still so that was a good sign. We thought maybe she had an upset tummy or trapped wind so we let her rest in the crate.
Monday 7th morning, we woke up and as Rox walked out of her bed, she was wobbly on her back legs, we took her downstairs where she did a wee standing and partially defecated in the house, showing signs of incontinence. We called the vets and made our way there straight away, after some tests and checks we were referred to Lumbry Park specialist for her to undergo an MRI and possible surgery.
After a long morning and afternoon, Roxie had her MRI and was found to have a disc extrusion by her pelvis. They prepped her for surgery and off she went.
A few hours later we were told it was successful, they had gotten large amounts of the disc debris out and her spinal cord showed signs of looking healthy, despite the compression it had gone through. Roxie had come round from surgery and was responding really well.
Tuesday 8th, Roxie had a really good night, they are starting to wean her off the hard sedatives and painkillers as she’s been really calm and reacting well. She still needs a bit of support when standing but the muscle tone is still there so that’s really positive for her recovery walking. She’s been weeing a little in her bed and they’ve been expressing her bladder to get the rest out, however, they have said that her bladder muscle is looking good so we hope incontinence is just temporary.
We will keep this updated daily as we hear from the vets.
We appreciate your time reading this and any donation, share or comment is welcome and so so appreciated during this sad and stressful time.
