Help Roxanne stay in her home

Dear community,

It is hard and vulnerable to ask for help, and I also know that supporting each other when times are hard is what builds community and creates the world we want to live in. This gofundme is for my mother, Roxanne, who has survived through hard times for most of her life. Roxanne is hitting a bump in the road that we cannot get over on our own, and we need your help to raise $18,175.

Roxanne has lived in midtown Kingston for over 50 years and has been able to hold onto her home despite rising property taxes and a changing city. Last Sunday a pipe burst in her house, flooding the first floor and basement. While the repair work will be covered by insurance, the extra strain of doors being open to pull out wet carpet and do repairs has caused the 20+ year old boiler to finally stop working. It is now the middle of winter and Roxanne is without heat. She is staying with me and my partner for the forseeable future, but it is going to cost $18,175 to pay for a new boiler. I am asking my community to give whatever you can to get my mother back into her home safe and warm. The cost of a new boiler will not be covered by insurance, and since Roxanne is on a fixed income, even financing the boiler is not a good option for her.

Roxanne is a very private person, and I also want to lift up that she has survived in this world as a Black disabled woman on a fixed income who raised two children on her own. She is kind, she is a healer, she is an elder, and she asks for very little from those around her.

I appreciate any amount you can give to help her get back into a stable situation. She means the world to me, and she is important to our community. Because she is without heat in the middle of winter, and because there will be further damage to her house the longer it goes unheated, we are trying to raise $18,175 by February 1st.
