Hi! My name is Karleyda Sandoval and I need to ask for your help in behalf of my closest friends. They will be moving here to Oklahoma this fall and we all need your support. This is their story:

Hi, we’re Luis Otero and Rosty Martínez. We’re physicists from the Simón Bolivar University in Venezuela and we need your help to continue our academic training. We were admitted to the Physics PhD at Oklahoma State University and we’re very excited to begin classes in August this year.

We enjoyed very much our studies here in Venezuela the last six years and we found the subjects of study in Physics absolutely fascinating. As a consequence, we were able to make a series of achievements along with the fun involved in working in physics. For instance, Rosty was part of the first Venezuelan team to participate in the International Physicists Tournament (IPT) and obtained an “outstanding” mention in his degree project “Resonant modes in a chain of non-linear, coupled and forced oscillators”, which Luis will also obtain soon in his project “Economic Complexity Index”. Both of us also participated in the Didactron interactive museum as guides and technicians and have a GPA of more than 3 out of 4.

We are proud of having studied at our alma mater, the Simón Bolivar University, as we got an excellent preparation in our undergraduate program. However, as future researchers, we must explore new horizons and prepare ourselves to learn about new perspectives and ways of thinking. Therefore we see in the PhD at Oklahoma State University a fantastic opportunity to develop our true potential, to continue our education as scientists, and to learn and grow even more; so that in the future we will be able to apply our knowledge and abilities to overcome the challenges and difficulties of our future.

Oklahoma State University offers us help in the form of Assistantships to cover our tuition and to account for our living expenses starting the second month of studies. The money to cover the trip to Stillwater and our expenses during the first month must be covered by ourselves. In addition, since the US embassy shut down here in Caracas we need to make a trip to Bogotá to obtain our VISA, which adds an extra expense to achieve our goal. For us and our families in Venezuela this is an impossible amount to attain and that is why we are asking for your solidarity and support. We'll need the amount of:

-250$ for the plane ticket Bogota-Miami (each)
-1000$ for our living expenses of the first month (each)

Total=2500$

All of this expenses will need to be paid with an American credit card in US currency, which is why we are using our friend's, Karleyda Sandoval, card and why the money will be transferred to her account.

Finally we want to thank you very much in advance for all the help you could provide us to overcome this financial difficulties. You could help us by either donating or sharing the link of this campaign. We will keep you informed about everything and will post updates for each step we make towards the goal. A million thanks and best wishes to you all,

Rosty Martínez and Luis Otero.

Hola!

Hola, somos Luis Otero Y Rosty Martinez.

Total= 2500$

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated! Unfortunately, we got the news that the U.S Department of Transport cancelled all commercial flights between Venezuela and the U.S, for that reason we need to purchase new plane tickets to stop at Bogota, Colombia and go from there. We need to ask for all of your support again. Thank you so much, please keep sharing, and donations will be opened until August!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared the campaign. Luis and Rosty already have their VISAS approved and we were able to finance the plane tickets to Stillwater. We are almost there but we still need your support for the expenses of the first month. Please keep sharing!
