To all of our family and friends. As hard as this past month has been, we are ready to share.
On November 3, 2024 Ross was traveling home on his street bike. While stopped at a red light, he was hit from behind by a F150 at a high rate of speed. Ross spent 19 days in the critical care ICU intubated while surgical interventions were performed to repair the extensive injuries. After 8 successful surgeries, he recovered in a rehabilitation hospital. Ross is expected to have a full recovery with limited limitations, however the healing process will be a journey for him, both mentally and physically. His surgeries were due to internal bleeding in his abdomen, which his spleen had to be removed. He suffered compartment syndrome in both legs, needing fasciotomies, He broke his right leg tibia and fibula, surgical intervention to repair his R tibia was successful. Left leg fibula is broken and healing. He underwent surgical intervention to fuse his thoracic spine discs 4-7. Due to the R leg swelling, they were unable to close the R leg exterior fasciotomy and closed the wound with a skin graft from his upper left thigh. His R elbow is extremely painful, after MRI we learned that he has a tendon, bicep and triceps tear, will see orthopedic surgeon. From every specialist, CC ICU Trauma team, everyone has stated that they have not seen someone survive the impact of this. We know that he had a guardian angel on his shoulder that night.
Given the extensiveness of these injuries, Ross has shown his strength and has already made tremendous recovery and was able to take his first of many steps in physical therapy. Ross was able to come home on Nov 30, but still requires in home care, and outpatient therapy. His PTSD has been triggered from his military service and is experiencing night terrors from the accident. We again are thankful he is alive and will take his physical and mental health recovery day by day.
We have been asked by multiple people to create a Go Fund me to help our family in this time. As Ross is head of household for his wife and have 2 children in the home. Medical needs, bills and home modifications to supoort his needs.
Ross wants to thank you all for your continued support and encouragement while he is navigating through this difficult time and encourages everyone to remain positive as Ross and his family are grateful by the grace of God that he is alive.
