Help Ross get the Smart Shelta to the homeless

Donation protected

My name is Ross Bundy, I have worked for the Ambulance Service on the front line in the UK for twenty years.

Early on in my career I met a young man who was homeless and living rough on the streets since he was 14 years old. I met this man on  a few occasions and we would talk about his life living on the streets. He told me of the freezing cold, the loneliness and the feeling of being completely vulnerable to the elements. He told me he liked sleeping in cardboard boxes because they were warm and made him feel secure and what he wanted was a permanent cardboard box.  He also told me of the physical abuse he suffered at the hands of other people. On many occasions he suffered injuries that were sustained because people would kick and punch him through the tent or box he was sleeping in, unbelievably, there were several occasions where his tent would be set on fire and on one of these occasions he was unable to escape his burning tent and he sadly lost his life, he was 26 years old.

After hearing this terrible news I was determined to design a shelter that would offer warmth and shelter from the elements  and be constructed of a more substantial material that would offer whoever was inside protection from physical attack.

So I designed the Smart Shelta. It has a solid construction of recycled plastic sections which fold inside each other to form a suitcase on wheels capable of storing all the owners belongings, it has a dynamic motor attached to the wheel axel that charges a battery whilst being pulled along and has two USB power outlets inside the Shelta to power a heating element and another device such as a mobile phone.

Once fully extended the Shelta is nearly eight foot long, waterproof and of a strong solid construction. It has a lockable door at each end with low voltage lighting built in inside.
The Smart Shelta is a as simple product that provides the basics of survival, shelter from the elements, protection from  physical harm and warmth from the cold. Having a shelter that provides these things could save someones life.

I am launching this campaign to raise enough money to be able to start my business, on a small scale at first, focusing on manufacture and distribution of as many of my Smart Sheltas as i can produce with the money raised.
So far I have spent over £20,000 on protecting the Smart Shelta's design, with a UK patent already granted, Patent No. GB2576104 and patent applications pending in both Europe and the US.

With the pandemic affecting us all worldwide, homelessness will become an even bigger problem and the need for these shelters will increase internationally.

I have set up Smart Shelta as a business, primarily to help the homeless, but also to introduce the Smart Shelta in to the leisure market as a retail product ideal for the camping market as well as the festival market, my aim is to make the Smart Shelta successful in its own right as a retail product, which will then make it easier to fund distribution of the Shelta to the people that need it without relying solely on donations and fund raising.

Our aim is to distribute the Smart Shelta around the world and save lives and your contributions will help us achieve this.

This project is important because it tackles a problem that affects us all, because we could all  find ourselves in a position of crisis, especially as the world is struggling to cope with the Covid 19 pandemic, job losses and businesses disappearing, creating poverty around the world, more and more people are finding themselves homeless and living on the streets, there aren't enough homeless shelters to take everybody in, so people have to sleep rough, there is also a large community of rough sleepers who prefer to stay sleeping on the streets.

Your donation would help make the Smart Shelta a reality and I would also be grateful to anyone who could share the link to our website, https:www.smartshelta.co.uk, via social media or word of mouth, tell friends and family, colleagues, about the Smart Shelta and how it will help the homeless.

Thankyou
