Hello, my friends. I am reaching out, humbly, because I am in a moment of need. It does not swell my soul to make this request, but I am facing a January crossroads. I will be frank. And brief. The last ten years I have been buffeted by some serious mental health diagnosis struggles. I have come to a point where a status of Disabled is upon me. I have been buoyed by a couple of dear friends, whose encouragements have meant the world. Finances slowly drained away -- although I was endeavoring mightily by trying, when able, to engage in temporary contract assignments to keep the lights on. At age 60, and after having contributed (gladly) for decades to social security, I find myself applying for SocSec Disability. That's a multi-month process. My local government (D.C.) already has concurred with my doctors' assessments and has designated me as disabled, but the federal SocSec process takes longer. I am in a small basement in Dupont Circle with an incredibly flexible landlord, and he understands the vagaries of bureaucratic processes. But, he has a limit, and I do owe several months' back rent. He needs $3000 now, or I will be asked to leave Jan 31. I grieve more for my back-alley rescue cats (I have kept two, who are my family the last 3 years). My cash reserve is $400 now, so I am praying for $2600. I recognize this is no small amount. The federal SocSec decision is close, and my doctors & D.C. govt support me, so I am so hopeful the feds will approve monthly amounts. But I need to weather the immediate eviction threat. I hope to persevere, with positive and hopeful care from my medical team. I am not at all happy to be asking you in support of this GoFundMe, but, if you can assist at this pivot point, I would be grateful.
