Meet Rosie! She is an 11-year-old Maltipoo girly with the spunk of a dog twice her size. There are three of us who are lucky enough to call ourselves Rosie's family - Patti (the ultimate mama bear), Courtney, and Alyssa. We scooped her up, along with her brother, Cooper, when they were only 9-weeks-old and were head-over-heels in love from day one. Affectionately referred to as "the twins" by many, Rosie and Cooper were inseparable little rascals who always got into each other's business the way that only the best siblings do. They fit right in with our first dog, Lilly, and formed the best little pack ever.

When Cooper very suddenly passed away in April of this year, we were devastated and without any answers about what happened. As a result, Rosie has had many vet visits in the last several months to stay on top of her health as much as possible. Nevertheless, her diabetes diagnosis snuck up on us and we kicked into high gear to get her blood sugar under control. After learning how to give her insulin injections and watching her behavior like a hawk, we were sure that things would soon be on the right track but her gallbladder had other plans. The continuous glucose monitor was put in, before we could get her levels calibrated, however, she started to feel extremely uncomfortable and was not her usual cutie pie self. During the sleepless nights and repeated trips to the emergency vet that followed, we finally discovered that there was free fluid in her abdomen and her gallbladder was either ruptured or in danger of rupturing. The wonderful team at Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists referred her to VMCLI where she would have surgery to remove the gallbladder completely.

Seeing her in distress has been one of the hardest things we've ever experienced, and despite how confused she must have been she still enthusiastically greeted us - with big tail wags!! - when we tucked her in the night before the procedure.

The cost of getting these issues resolved is enormous and we unfortunately do not have the finances in the bank to cover everything, but this little nugget is worth it! Her pet insurance is going to be a massive help but the maximum covered under her annual policy only equals about half of what we are paying. **Home Update**

She is finally out of the vet hospital and doing amazing! Her incision healed without any issues, her appetite has returned, and she's becoming her silly little self again. Rosie will need a lot of rest in the coming weeks but she is getting back into her usual routine (with tons of extra snuggles, of course!)

Rosie came out of surgery fine, she is awake and doing well. Recovery from a major procedure like this is extremely difficult so she is not out of the woods yet, please keep her in your thoughts!!
