Help Roshawn Become an Oncologist: Support My Medical Quest
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Roshawn Hugh Smith, and I am a 20-year-old first-year medical student at the University of the West Indies Mona in Jamaica. My dream is to become an oncologist—a passion born from my own experiences and my desire to bring hope and healing to those facing cancer.
Beyond academics, I have always been dedicated to serving my community. Actualizing charitable initiatives with the 'Food for the Poor' program in high school, that being Cornwall College, has shown me that giving back has been a core part of who I am. My involvement in clubs and community projects has taught me the importance of compassion, empathy, and leadership—qualities I hope to bring into my future medical practice.
However, my journey has not been without challenges. Having faced cancer myself, this aspiration of mine is deeply personal and I understand firsthand the physical, emotional, and financial burdens this illness brings. This experience deepened my resolve to specialize in oncology, where I hope to combine my medical expertise with empathy to support patients and their families.
I am currently navigating the rigorous demands of medical school, but financial constraints pose a significant hurdle. My tuition and fees amount to $28,000 USD, and with additional healthcare costs, including regular PET-CT scans, my family and I are struggling to make ends meet. My mother and father bear the weight of these expenses, and I want nothing more than to alleviate this burden.
This is why I am turning to you. Your support will not only help me continue my education but also bring me closer to achieving my dream of becoming an oncologist. Every contribution will go directly toward my tuition and educational needs, allowing me to focus on my studies and pursue my passion for medicine and community service without the constant worry of financial instability.
I am deeply grateful for any support you can offer, whether it’s through a donation or by sharing my story. Together, we can turn this dream into reality—not just for me, but for every future patient I hope to help. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Your generosity and kindness mean more than words can express.
With heartfelt thanks,
Dr. Smith.
