My name is Roshane, and I am a resident of Jamaica who has been deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa. Before the hurricane, I lived comfortably in my own home, surrounded by cherished memories and important belongings. Among the things I lost were irreplaceable family photos from my childhood, important documents like my passport, and all the furnishings that made my house a home. The devastation has left me with nothing but the clothes on my back, and the memories of what once was.
Right now, my most urgent needs are stable housing, food, and clothing. I am currently staying in a hotel, but I am unsure how much longer I will be able to remain there. The essentials that many take for granted—shelter, a warm meal, and a change of clothes—are now my main priorities as I try to rebuild my life from the ground up. Replacing these basics is a slow process, and the uncertainty of each day is overwhelming.
I am in touch with my father, who is in America, and I have limited communication with my grandparents here in Jamaica, as they are also struggling in the aftermath of the hurricane. Unfortunately, my local community is facing similar hardships, and there is little support available. I am reaching out for help so I can begin to rebuild and regain some stability. Any support will go directly toward securing a safe place to live, food, and the essentials I need to start over. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference as I work to recover from this disaster.
