Everything changed for Roselia when her loving husband, Alfredo, was detained by ICE on the morning of October 7th in DC. Officers blocked his vehicle and took him violently. A video of the detention circulated on TikTok, and their almost-18 year-old son Jonathan recognized the family’s red truck After two weeks in detention, feeling pressured and fearing harsher treatment at the facility, Alfredo agreed to be deported to Guatemala.

Roselia and Jonathan have not only lost a warm and supportive partner and father; they have also lost the main bread winner of their family. Roselia cannot work because she suffers from severe diabetes. With no income coming in, she and Jonathan had moved in with relatives in an overcrowded apartment. Jonathan is now searching for a job even though this young man should be focused on finishing high school!

Roselia was recently hospitalized after stress from Alfredo’s detention and discovering that his work van had been repossessed. She now depends on friends for transportation to her medical appointments and to navigate the medical system.
