Vanessa and I have been friends since elementary school, and I’ve seen firsthand how much her dog, Rose, means to her. Rose isn’t just a pet—she’s Vanessa’s shadow, following her everywhere and bringing comfort and joy to her family. Late Wednesday evening, Rose was hit by a car in a heartbreaking hit-and-run accident. Vanessa was just seconds away from calling her inside when it happened, and hearing it all unfold was devastating. The emergency vet bill was significant just to stabilize her, and now Rose needs specialized surgery at Purdue Veterinary Hospital to repair her hip and prevent further complications. The road ahead includes not only surgery, but also physical therapy and 24-hour care, which means Vanessa may have to give up her job to be there for Rose every step of the way.
