Hi, my name is Nikki Ausdemore and I'm helping Rose Day fundraise for her travel expenses related to her medical care. Rose is very much appreciative of any contribution you can make. Contributions of any size are helpful!
Here is Rose's explanation of her current situation.
After battling stage 2 cancer in 2017-18 I went in for the last of my six month follow up appointments with my oncologist May of 2023. My regular oncologist was ill so I saw one of her colleagues. I felt in great health and like this was just the routine check in. This new oncologist decided to run tumor markers that can expose pancreatic cancer. I have a gene mutation that raises my chances of pancreatic cancer. I totally expected they’d show that all was well. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case and my CA 19-9 markers were 175 when nothing over 37 is normal.
The breast cancer had metastasized to my liver and I had “innumerable lesions.” When a person has stage four cancer they can expect to be on treatment for the rest of their lives. Oncologists start with the most effective, lowest side effect treatments first. The first two lines of treatment did not work for me and the cancer progressed. My oncologist suggested I seek out study medications. I found one I qualified for at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Often studies will pay for travel and lodging. Fortunately the study medication is working and my cancer is shrinking. Unfortunately, this study does not pay for lodging or travel. I have to travel every three weeks for infusion to TX. Our insurance reimbursed but only up to $4000. We are seeking out charities that help with airfare but haven’t yet qualified for them. Any help we could get with travel expenses is much appreciated!
