Help Rosangela and Her Children Build a Stable Future
Rosangela is my dear friend and a refugee from Venezuela. She arrived in the United States in September 2025 with her 9-year-old daughter while nine months pregnant. Just one month after arriving in Phoenix, she gave birth to her son. Today, she is raising a 10-year-old daughter and a 17-month-old baby boy—all while navigating life in a brand-new country without family support.
From the very beginning, Rosangela has shown incredible strength and determination. Within a short time of arriving, she found a job and secured an apartment for her family. She has worked tirelessly, even earning a promotion. But despite her dedication and strong work ethic, she continues to face significant financial challenges. As an hourly employee in a low-wage position, when her baby gets sick and she has to miss work, she also loses income—making it nearly impossible to get ahead.
I met Rosangela about five months after her arrival through a local refugee support organization. Although formal support ended after six months, I have continued walking alongside her for the past year. I visit weekly to help with English, provide encouragement, bring groceries and other necessities, and give the kids opportunities to get out of the apartment for activities—something that’s difficult without transportation.
Rosangela is hardworking, faithful, and deeply devoted to her children. Her daughter, Valentina, is kind, thoughtful, and trying her best to adapt to a new language, school, and culture. This family is doing everything right—but still struggling to find stability.
Recently, Rosangela lost her SNAP benefits due to policy changes, significantly increasing the pressure on her already tight budget. At the same time, the roommates she shared a two-bedroom apartment with moved out unexpectedly, leaving her solely responsible for the full rent through June. She is actively searching for safe roommates or a more affordable apartment, but in the meantime, she is struggling to cover rent and provide food for her children.
One of the biggest barriers holding her back is transportation. Without a car, her job options, housing options, and childcare flexibility are extremely limited. Reliable transportation would dramatically expand her opportunities—allowing her to pursue better-paying work and more affordable housing, and to build long-term stability for her family.
Rosangela is not asking for a handout—she is working hard every day to build a safe and stable life for her children. This fundraiser is meant to help bridge a critical financial gap during an incredibly challenging season.
