UPDATE: As of 1/28/2026, Juan is still in ICE detention in Michigan. He met before a judge and will be released once he pays a $12,000 bond. The family is in need of help with raising funds to pay that exorbitant bill to finally free Juan.
Juan José Soto-Medina is a father and husband who was unjustly detained during his meeting with ICE on 10/1/25. Terrified of also being detained and leaving her daughter alone, Rosana is seeking financial support as Juan was the breadwinner of the family. She can't afford the lawyer fees necessary to help Juan. Below is Rosana’s testimony of how things transpired:
“The three of us went as a family to an appointment with ICE on October 1st for the check-in. Neither my husband nor I have any criminal record, nor have we been detained before, and we don't have ankle monitors or anything like that. I asked the officer the day they detained him why they were keeping him, and his response was that those are the new orders they've received, meaning there was no reason or probable cause to detain him. He even had his first court hearing on Friday, and everything went well; they didn't press charges because he has nothing. This affects us because my husband was the breadwinner. Besides, I haven't been able to hire a lawyer because I don't have the $5,000 he's asking for.”
