Hello - I am raising funds to assist a friend and community member ROSALYN L. NEEL (on the right in the photo above) who is currently hospitalized in Mount Vernon, WA (since August 2nd) with significant health problems. She has used up her resources in the process of qualifying for Washington state Medicaid which she did apply for August 8. Medicare alone does not cover her care needs.

Eligibility for state assistance is delayed by the system, and will unfortunately NOT be retroactive, so the lack of insurance coverage is limiting Rosalyn's ability to get into an appropriate other Continuing Care facility.

Her health conditions will now prevent her from being able to live alone in any location, and she will likely need skilled nursing care and may, at some point, elect Hospice care, (but is not ready to consider that yet!).

She is in need of our help and protection in this major life transition and broader help to handle necessary support tasks such as completing packing her belongings so they can be managed by family and Rosalyn together in the future.

This task of moving belongings has been okayed by Rosalyn but requires paid help. A young couple she trusts is willing to do the labor and logistics, and approximately $1000 is needed to pay them and they are willing to begin this week.

While an $1000 emergency grant was approved by the National Subud organization, these funds are being held in reserve to assure continued adequate medical care is not lost should she be discharged before Medicaid coverage comes through. The cost of even assisted living is $6000/month

So I am appealing to those who know and love Rosalyn to assist if you can in meeting Rosalyn's current needs. I have set an initial modest goal of $5000. I will provide updates here and hopefully messages from Rosalyn herself to allow contributors to follow her current journey!

ROSALYN NEEL has spent 60+ of her 86 years in service of others in California, Colorado, and Washington. Her extremely modest Social Security income is due to the fact that, most of those roles did not include paying into the Social Security System. Never owning a home, Rosalyn managed a resourceful "gypsy" lifestyle all these years, landing where she could render some service and be a valued part of communities.

She was attempting to move in with a friend temporarily, when her health failed more rapidly than she had understood it might.

This fund raiser is especially important now because Rosalyn and I are both being told by the hospital that Medicare will cease to cover the hospital stay soon, and they will be forced to discharge her to "whatever facility or location she can afford" during the gap until MediCAID coverage is granted. MediCARE insurance does not pay for assisted living costs or long term care costs.

Through this GoFundMe, I am hoping to help raise enough to cover the gap of days until Medicaid kicks in.

And pick up those important other costs that Medicaid Coverage (when it finally happens) will not help with. One of these that causes fear for Rosalyn is that she has trouble swallowing institutional foods and needs to make her own substitutions in order to get enough nutrition.
