Rosa is my baby girl and my closest friend. Earlier this week, while doing what she loves most, running and playing frisbee, she ruptured a tendon in her knee. She’s now in pain, limping, and confined to rest. Watching such a joyful, active dog suddenly unable to move the way she used to has been heartbreaking.

The vet has told us that this type of injury requires surgery, estimated at around $5,000. There is also a possibility that her other knee may eventually need surgery as well, but right now the focus is getting her through this first procedure so she can heal and walk comfortably again.

This injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. Over the past few months, I’ve been in an intense season of grief and loss. Our beloved bearded dragon, Pancho, passed away unexpectedly, which came with medical and cremation costs. While I was still grieving that loss, I learned less than a week later that my dad had stage four terminal stomach cancer and only weeks to live. I had to travel to California to see him one last time and, shortly after, pay for his cremation as well.

I haven’t even fully processed these losses yet. Rosa has been with me through all of it — quietly, loyally, offering comfort when everything else felt like it was falling apart. She’s been one of the few steady sources of love and grounding in my life during a time when I’ve felt overwhelmed and isolated.

Because of recent travel, emergency expenses, and end-of-life costs, my savings are now depleted. I am someone who usually handles things on my own and struggles deeply with asking for help. But I’m at a point where I can’t do this alone.
