Help Rosa Get A Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
To our friends, family, and kind hearted strangers,
My name is Samantha and I am the youngest child of my beautiful mother, Rosa Zapata. Rosa has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in her bone marrow, called Myelofibrosis. For those of you who don’t know Rosa: She is typically known to be tough, loud, bubbly, and the life of the party. She has a contagious laugh and a smile that will light up the room. She has raised three children on her own and has always worked multiple jobs to provide for her family. As a legal assistant, she works overtime at the office every week. Her weekends are spent working at Stop and Shop and going to church every Sunday.
This cancer has been preventing her body from producing white or red blood cells. Her anemia is severe and has required biweekly blood transfusions for the last year. Even with the transfusions, she is often very weak. The anemia has taken a toll on her heart, which is now also becoming weak and thus causing further complications, which come with frequent episodes of chest pain. She was prescribed oral chemotherapy, which alone did not provide relief. Recently, she entered a clinical trial in combination with chemotherapy, but she has not responded as well as we were hoping for.
We have now been informed by her oncologist that she will need a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible. We have been told that without it, she will not survive. The procedure will involve aggressive chemotherapy followed by a 90 day hospital stay in isolation as her body grows all new bone marrow from a donor. Her medical bills are already quite extensive, and now coupled with multiple unpaid days off from work have put a considerable strain on her finances.
We are asking for any help that can ease the burden that will be placed on Rosa’s shoulders while she fights for her life. She is not done with this battle and she wants so badly to watch her grandchild grow up. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing or keeping our family in your prayers.
