Root to Rise Farm was significantly impacted by the recent Kona Low storm series. This has storm has been devastating for our small farm that grows diversified vegetables and produces seed for Hawaiʻi’s growers to have access to locally adapted seeds. Heavy rains, strong winds, and prolonged wet conditions led to widespread disease across our fields. We have lost at least 80% of both our vegetable and seed crops. What is usually a steady harvest of over 100 pounds of fresh produce each week—shared with our community through farmers markets in Kailua, Waimānalo, and Hawaiʻi Kai—has now been drastically reduced. This loss puts the farm at serious risk of not being able to continue. The aftermath of the storm has left standing water and saturated soil, allowing disease to persist and spread. The damage to our soil structure is severe enough that we must fully reset our fields and begin again from the ground up. We are urgently seeking support to rebuild and return to growing nutrient-dense food for our community. I am so grateful for any support you can offer during this time. Your generosity will help Root to Rise Farm take the first steps toward recovery so we can continue to serve community. Our farm is part of a shared growing space, and if funds received exceed our immediate needs, they will be distributed among nine other farmers in the area who have also been significantly impacted by the storm. Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time.
