My friend Roosevelt is one of the most caring, dedicated people I know. We’ve been close friends for over five years, and I’ve watched him work tirelessly toward his dream of becoming a Special Education teacher—a role that speaks to his patience, compassion, and heart for others.

In May, Roosevelt proudly graduated from college and recently moved to Dallas to begin this new chapter in his life. What should have been a season of celebration quickly turned into a fight for his health.

Roosevelt was diagnosed with a mass in his chest, which led to additional nodules developing in his lungs. His condition worsened to the point that he was hospitalized for nearly a month and ultimately required lung surgery. Since September 26, he has been unable to work and was placed on administrative leave from his position as a Special Education teacher.

Instead of settling into his career, Roosevelt has been navigating doctor visits, recovery, and the emotional toll of sudden illness—while also facing mounting medical and living expenses in a new city, far from the stability he had just begun to build.

Roosevelt is someone who spends his life helping others succeed. Now, he needs support as he focuses on healing and getting back to the life and career he worked so hard for.
