Rooney Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Hi, we’re reaching out to you for help with our beloved Rooney, our 6-year-old English Bulldog. Over the past six months, we’ve watched our happy, energetic boy slowly lose his ability to walk and play. His back legs have become weaker, and he's started having seizures. Now, he can only manage short walks before his legs give out, and watching him struggle has been heartbreaking for us.

After several visits to his regular vet, where blood work came back clear, we were referred to a neurologist. The neurologist suspected something serious, like a brain tumor, and we were terrified. Rooney underwent an MRI and spinal tap, and while we were relieved to learn he doesn’t have a tumor, the diagnosis wasn’t easy. Rooney has a cyst-like fluid buildup on his spinal cord, which is causing pressure, leading to his wobbly legs and seizures.

The only way to improve Rooney’s quality of life is through surgery. While surgery can stop the progression of his condition in about 80% of cases, there's a 50% chance the issue could return in a few years. Despite the risks, we believe this surgery will give Rooney a much better quality of life. He's only 6 years old, and we know he has many more happy years ahead of him with the right care.

Rooney's health was quickly declining and thankfully an incredible generous friend kindly stepped up and loaned us the funds to get Rooney the required surgery so he didn't have to wait any longer.

Surgery was performed by Neurologist Dr Vitale on Monday Nov. 4th at Sage Veterinary in Campell, CA. To see his progress, be sure to check out his Instagram: @tooting_rooney

We are still in desperate need of funds to be able to repay back our kind friend and for his rehabilitation.

A Little About Rooney
Rooney isn’t just any dog—he’s a true character. From the moment we got him as a 10-pound bundle of joy, we knew he was special. Rooney loves meeting people and going on adventures, whether it’s strolling around Capitola Village, Pacific Ave, or Pleasure Point. He has a special way of connecting with people, especially those who are nervous or afraid of dogs. Rooney helps them conquer their fear with his gentle nature and irresistible charm.

Rooney is known as an "Ambassador" at many of the local dog-friendly shops. He never misses a chance to greet everyone, especially if there's a chance for a treat! He’s become a familiar face, and everyone who meets him instantly falls in love. It’s heartbreaking to see him unable to enjoy these adventures like he used to.

Why We Need Your Help
We’re aiming to raise $24,000 to cover the costs of Rooney’s medical care, including his MRI, spinal tap, surgery, and rehabilitation. While we do have pet insurance, we've already maxed out our coverage for the year due to previous treatments.

Your generosity will not only help Rooney walk again, but also give him a second chance to continue being the happy, adventurous, and loving dog we know and cherish.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for considering helping Rooney. Every little bit helps, whether it’s donating, sharing this page, or simply sending love our way.

With gratitude,
The Mosbacher Family
