Hello, I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my parents during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. My dad, Ronny DePolo, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer following what was supposed to be a routine checkup. While we are grateful it was caught, the reality of treatment has come with an overwhelming financial burden that my parents simply cannot manage alone.
Ronny is 73 years old and has been working since he was just 14. For decades, he has worked in flooring installation. Even now, while officially in a supervisory role, he still spends long days on job sites overseeing crews and helping wherever he is needed. He has never been the type to slow down or stop working, because his priority has always been taking care of his family. He is a father of three, a grandfather of two, and a great grandfather of two.
Starting Monday, my dad will begin radiation treatment five days a week for two full months. To even begin treatment, there is a large upfront cost, and total medical expenses are expected to be significant, even with Medicare. On top of that, the physical toll of daily radiation means he will need time off work, resulting in lost income while bills continue to pile up.
What makes asking for help especially difficult is that my parents have always been the people who help others first and never ask for anything in return. They have supported friends, family, and anyone who needed it, quietly and without recognition. Now, for the first time, they are in a position where they truly need help themselves.
My dad is the kind of husband who spends his evenings playing Pokémon with my mom and rubbing her feet while they watch TV. Bowling has always been his passion, but due to work and medical conditions his bowling passion has been put on hold. Everything he has done in his life has been for his wife, children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren.
I am organizing this fundraiser for my mom, so she can focus on being there for my dad without the constant fear of how they will afford treatment, transportation, and basic living expenses during this time. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward radiation treatment and medical bills, the required upfront payment to start care, lost wages during treatment, and helping relieve financial stress so my parents can focus on healing. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much. Thank you for taking the time to read my dad’s story, for your kindness, and for helping a man who has spent his entire life taking care of others finally receive the help he deserves. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
