Help Ronan Recover from Hockey Brain Injury
Donation protected
Update 11/8/21. The fundraising campaign is ending. The Spicers just needed some help to get through this and thanks to many friends the goal was met.
The Spicers asked me to include this message: Thank you everyone! Ronan is getting better and the worst is behind us. He is still going to physical therapy every weekday but getting back to more normal life. Although he is missing hockey, he is taking time to figure out his next steps. Words cannot express our gratitude for the generosity and support from all of our friends and family around the country. Special thanks to Ronan's friend and teammate Jake Swiatek for setting up this fund. Keep sending out positive vibes for Ronan's recovery. Much love - Ronan, Joy & Eric.
Hi. My name is Jake Swiatek. I am fundraising for Ronan Spicer. Ronan is 18 years old and is my teammate at the Soo Eagles junior hockey team and was also my teammate at Team Illinois U16. On October 17, 2021, our team the Soo Eagles was playing in a game in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada when Ronan was hit in the head with a puck in a spot where there was no helmet covering. Ronan had to be transported for emergency treatment from Canada back to a hospital in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan in the US. It was quickly determined that he needed more extensive emergency treatment so he was transported in an ambulance to a different hospital over 90 minutes away. There he was diagnosed with a brain bleed /traumatic brain injury (TBI) from being hit by the puck. Ronan spent several days in the intensive care unit/ICU and had multiple CT scans and other treatments. He was released from the hospital and is now back home for further treatment. Ronan is recovering but he still has to go 3-5 days a week for brain therapy to help his recovery. Ronan has been a great friend and teammate to many of us in hockey. As the ambulance, medical expenses, and therapy have been very expensive and a lot of it is not covered by insurance, anything we can do to help Ronan get back on his feet is appreciated.
