On January 30, I went to Kadlec hospital ER. Within 48 hours, I was in a medically induced coma fighting for my life against a flesh-eating bacteria. My wife was faced with the impossible choice of amputating my leg or letting me die. After surgery, I was life-flighted to Seattle to ensure nothing else would be lost to the infection. I have no memory of anything between entering the ER and the day after the Super Bowl. This sudden and intense change has put a tremendous strain on my family and me—financially, emotionally, mentally, and even scholastically for my two boys, ages 11 and 15.
I have always tried to be the anchor for my family, but this experience has left us facing challenges we never imagined. My wife and children have lost their emotional head of the household and primary breadwinner, and we are working hard to adjust to this new reality. The funds raised here will help supplement SSDI to cover rent, food, vehicles, and counseling for my family as we navigate this difficult time. My goal is to regain my strength and be there for my family during difficult times down the road.
Please donate what you are able and share this story with others. Your support means the world to us. Once we reach our goal, 50% of everything over that will be used to set up amputation support organizations and funding for those in need. Thank you for helping us find hope and stability again.
