There is neither Jew NOR Gentile, neither slave NOR free, NOR is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28, NIV)
Purpose:
My purpose for writing and recording music is two-fold. I want to use hip-hop to:
1) Edify the saints. In a creative way, I want my music to point people to the truths of the Gospel and encourage Christians in their faith. Ephesians 5:18-19 says, "... be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart." Christian Hip-Hop = Spiritual Song.
2) Share the hope found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ with any and all who will give my music a listen. Just as Galatians 3:28 states, the Gospel makes all one in Christ. There are people who may listen to a rap song or attend a concert who would have no desire to step foot into a church. The Gospel is for them too!
Background: I have been rapping since I was 13. After becoming a Christian as a college student, I began to use my rapping ability to share with others about how meeting Jesus transformed my life. During my college career, I recorded close to about 10 different songs. But after graduating, getting married, and having several kids, music hasn't been something that I have been able to pursue consistently. But in the last year, the Lord has really reignited a passion for music and given me a clear vision for a record. The name of the album will be 'Fake ID.' The concept of the album is pretty simple but yet profound. In the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned, there was something that was lost and they realized their nakedness and begin to feel guilt and shame. Their response was to run, hide and cover themselves with fig leaves. Although you and I do not cover ourselves with literal leaves from trees, we use things such as work/career, relationships, wealth, popularity/approval of man, accomplishments, etc. to feel secure and restore what was lost. But the reality is there is only one thing that can ultimately provide us with the security, acceptance and the covering we are all after. This album seeks to point its listeners away from false identities to the only true identity that can restore what we lost due to sin.
Rewards for Giving:
Because I want to bless those who are willing to financially support this endeavor, I have provided a few rewards for those who generously give to this project:
Tier 1: Donors of $10 will receive a digital copy of the EP a full two weeks before it is released to the public.
Tier 2: Donors of $25 will receive the Tier 1 reward and a free ticket to an album release party held in Greensboro, NC.
Tier 3: Donors of $50 will receive the rewards of both previous tiers and an official shoutout during the release party and mention on the back of the album cover.
Tier 4: Donors of $100 or more will receive the rewards of all previous tiers, and an exclusive Fake ID tshirt.
The $5,000 will go toward the purchase of beats, the cost of featured artists, recording, mixing and mastering the record. Any additional funds will go toward the starter costs of merch (t-shirts, wrist bands and physical copies of the album).
Fun Fact: My stage name is Nor because when I initially began rapping in my early teenage years, I went by the name Lil' Ron (that was in the era of Lil' Bow Wow, Lil' Romeo, Lil' Wayne; Lil' Wayne... I guess never grew out of it, haha!) My cousin Ronnie had the same nickname, but he was a lot more popular than I was. So I decided I needed to change my name and I thought it would be cool to flip to the letters. Nor is simply Ron backwards. If you would like to check out some of my old music you can find it on norinchrist.bandcamp.com
