My name is Sara, and about 15 years ago, I worked at a small, family-owned grocery store where I met Ron.
If you’re local, there’s a good chance you may remember him.
But even if you don’t, I want you to know the kind of person he is...
Ron was the one outside helping customers with their groceries in every kind of weather - rain, heat, or freezing cold. He took pride in his job, always had a smile on his face, and treated people with a level of kindness that stuck with you long after you left.
Even though I no longer live locally, Ron is someone I’ve never forgotten.
He’s the kind of person who quietly showed up for others, day in and day out - without ever asking for anything in return.
And now, he’s the one who needs support.
Recently, I saw a local news segment about a house fire - and immediately recognized Ron.
The home he shared with his older brother for nearly 50 years on Slate Ridge Road in Whiteford, Maryland was destroyed...
Ron was able to get his brother out safely, but their home - and everything in it - is gone.
If you’d like to see the news coverage, you can watch it here:
After seeing the story, I reached out to Ron directly. We were able to connect, and he shared more about what they’re going through right now...
They are currently staying in a local motel. While insurance is helping cover that cost, it is only approved in short-term increments, and their long-term future remains uncertain as they are now facing major decisions - whether to rebuild on their land, sell it, or try to find somewhere new to live.
At this stage in life, starting over is not simple...
This isn’t just about replacing what was lost, but about helping two men in their 70s find stability again after losing the place they called home for decades.
Funds raised will help with:
- Living expenses beyond what insurance covers
- Temporary and future housing needs
- Replacing essential belongings
- Giving them time and flexibility to make the best decisions moving forward
Ron spent years showing up for others in this community...
Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.
If you’re able to give, any amount truly helps.
And if you can’t donate, sharing this page can make a meaningful difference.
I will continue to stay in touch with Ron and provide updates here as they navigate next steps.
Thank you so much!
