Our friend Ron Shafrir (@boxtrucknomad) is in need of support as he is currently stranded in San Felipe, Mexico due to his truck engine failing. Ron’s truck is his full time home and transportation for him and his dog, Bella. While driving back to the United States to seek medical treatment for a serious medical issue, a large puncture in the main coolant hose caused sudden coolant loss. Due to this road damage, the engine overheated and is effectively destroyed. The vehicle is currently inoperable, so Ron and Bella have no option but living in hotels day-to-day while trying to resolve the situation with a local mechanic.

Thus far, Ron already has drained his savings to start on mechanical work (sourcing a replacement engine) and cover over two weeks of hotel costs. Baja Bound insurance has denied Ron’s claims. Ron is facing thousands in repairs on the engine itself, which he does not have, and at least another week or two of hotel costs while the engine is replaced.

For further context on Ron’s condition, he likely has multiple herniated discs in neck/back and severe pinched nerves. He is in constant pain that is getting worse and worse as the days go by. As you can imagine, this series of events has been a total nightmare.

While Ron is hesitant to ask for support, all options to cover this himself have been exhausted, so now we are reaching out to the community. Ron is currently appealing the denied insurance with Baja Bound insurance. If significant coverage is approved, any donations beyond necessary expenses (hotel bill) will be returned. But currently he needs to cover thousands more himself as soon as possible.
