I am a 68 year old paraplegic who was born with a congenital spinal defect or Spina Bifida.  I have no use of my legs and have used wheelchairs to get around all my life.  I was on ODSP and they used to buy power wheelchairs every 5 years.  Well not to sound ungrateful but I hated them.  I had more mobility with a standard push chair.  These are some of the problems with a power chair.  they are big and heavy weighing about 400 lbs.  This makes them almost impossible to transport.  You need a van with a ramp or lift.  They are slow and you feel every bump in the road.  They are not designed for outdoor use and break down frequently.  They are expensive to repair and sometimes you are waiting months for parts.  Replacement parts such as tires wheels bearings and motors are prone to wearing out faster with outside use and are expensive to replace.  I have had top of the line power chairs and they are all junk.  None of them are weather proof.  So when I turned 65 I was cut off from assistance and had to pay my own medical costs for wheelchairs.  ADP or the Assistive Devices  Program will only pay a portion of the cost for wheelchairs and assists power chairs.  I switched to the BATEC system which clips onto my regular wheelchair in a second and transforms it into a three wheeled e bike which increases my mobility and is the best system I have found.  I am able to exercise my two dogs go shopping pursue my hobby photography visit friends and family and live a productive life.  The system is easy to clean and can be transported easily.  It has a greater range and faster charging time and is half the cost of a power chair.  The one shown in the picture is worn out and needs to be replaced.  It has around 6000 miles on it.  I don't want to be on it when it finally dies so I am asking for a little help to replace it and pay the balance on my new chair.  If you can help I and my dogs will be so grateful Cheers.
