Help My Family and Community Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa – St. Elizabeth parish, Jamaica.
Hello, my name is Romona and I work in Traverse City, Michigan through the H-2B program. I have been a part of the Traverse City guest worker community, April through November, for 3 years and love the people of Northern Michigan. I spend my summers working to provide excellent customer service as a Front Desk Agent at a local hotel on N-31. I am raising funds to help my family and community in St. Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, who have lost nearly everything after Hurricane Melissa devastated our parish.
When the eye of the hurricane passed directly over St. Elizabeth parish, our home was destroyed. We lost our roof, and everything inside — our beds, appliances, clothing, and food — was swept away or ruined by the storm. My family and I are left with nothing to go back to.
We will soon be flying home to Jamaica to bring food, supplies, and materials to begin rebuilding our home and helping our community recover. Many families in our area are facing the same tragedy. The few homes that survived with minimal damage are now sheltering multiple families and sharing what little food and water they have.
Despite everything, our community remains kind, loving, and united — helping one another however we can, even with limited resources.
Your donation will go directly toward:
• Building materials (lumber, zinc, nails, tools) to rebuild homes
• Food and clean water
• Clothing, bedding, and basic household needs
• Support for families with babies in diapers, young children, and elderly relatives
Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to safety and stability. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this GoFundMe to help spread the word.
From the bottom of my heart — thank you for your kindness, compassion, and prayers. ❤️
— Romona Brown
