Help Rommel get back on his feet
Donation protected
Hi, just a friend here setting up a gofundme for Rommel. As many of you already know, Rommel was riding his motorcycle back from Palm Springs when he was cut off and hit by a truck. The truck did not stop to check if he was okay and fled the scene. Rommel was left to drag himself to the side of the freeway to avoid getting hit by other cars. Paramedics eventually arrived, and he was transported back to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He suffered multiple fractures in his pelvis, torn ligaments and tendons left knee, a fractured right hand and severe road rash. As more tests were done, the staff realized that he would have to have multiple medical procedures. First, he had surgery on his hand, and his right arm is now in a cast. His knee will need multiple surgeries over the next few months. The first surgery was performed this week. It took 7 hours in surgery and cadaver parts to rebuild the ligaments and place things back in order so they could prepare for the second stage of the surgery in 8 weeks. The doctor informed us that it is a highly complex surgery, and this injury can take 8 to 12 months to recover from. Today, Rommel is still in trauma services but hopes to get moved soon to an inpatient Physical rehabilitation program for 2-To 3 weeks
As for Medical leave from work, he only gets 5 weeks of paid time off. His doctor informed us that going back at that timeline will not be possible and not even consider it. There is a possibility that he will have a permanent impairment in that leg.
Rommel has a long road to recovery right now and will most likely need home care after the rehabilitation process. And also someone to help with tasks around the house that he won't be able to do on his own. Including pet care for his four rescues.
In order to help Rommel through his recovery process, this gofundme has been set up to help pay for some medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, home and pet care, and living expenses since he will not be able to say for sure when he can return to work. He wanted me to make sure everyone was clear that none of the money was to cover his motorcycle or a new one. This is strictly for funds to help offset medical and life expenses.
We all know times are tough for many people now. If you cannot contribute financially, please feel free to share his story to spread the word and also, people who will want updates on his progress can follow along here.
As a side note, I know many people have been trying to get in touch with Rommel to send their love and see how they can help. But unfortunately, he hasn't been able to get back to a lot of people because of various factors. Mainly because of the fragile state he has been in, the extreme amount of pain he is suffering, the surgeries, the medications, and the fact that he is in a shared room with two others and has to keep noise to a minimum.
As for friends that have contacted the family or me, please know that we are passing on your words of love and encouragement. And when he is able to, he will be getting back to everyone.
