Help Romeo Overcome His Past and Thrive

Donation protected
A group of volunteers recently started a new fundraising campaign for Romeo the rescue dog.

This GoFund me is set up twofold… please read on for more info on both!
1. Medical
2. Housing

Romeo’s backstory is mostly unknown, but we have been able to uncover a variety of pieces of his backstory through some investigative work. Romeo was intended on being sent to a rescue organization in Utah after being found by his owner’s family member, after his owner supposedly disappeared. Romeo was chained with another dog in his back yard and had supposedly been abused for quite some time. He was placed in a boarding facility that needed him out ASAP. With just days before transport, Romeo was placed in an at home boarding situation, in what was supposed to be a 3 day deal before transport to rescue. The at home boarding humans discovered some quirky things about Romeo that started off as general mouthiness, which for a dog his size? Not the easiest to manage for the average household. It was discovered that Romeo would be placed in a foster home with 2 twin toddlers, and we deduced that sending him to rescue with this foster would not be in anyone’s best interest. So we halted transport for Romeo and sought out another option for him. The longer Romeo stayed with the at home boarding facility, the more we began to learn about Romeo.

Romeo started to show that he is quite sensitive to elongated touch on anywhere other than the top of his head. And is extremely sensitive in his back legs and back/underside being touched.

Romeo has also shown how amazing with dogs he is! Romeo absolutely loves dog friends and is so good with being gentle and respecting space. Big, small, male, female, and even intact. He loves to run, chase, and interact with dog friends. Romeo is sensitive when a dog approaches when he is sleeping/resting. Romeo also needs to be fed in his crate and given kongs/bones separate from other dogs. (Which is pretty typical for a majority of dogs). Romeo can and will share any toys with his dog AND human friends. Romeo can also be trained and take treats while around other dogs.

Romeo has also been very polite and friendly towards cats. He shows little to no prey drive towards cats or kittens, spicy or friendly. He pays them no mind and respects their space and presence. A home with cats and kittens would be perfectly fine for this big wolf-dog!!!

Due to the touch sensitivities, it may take some time to find Romeo a foster or forever home… despite all of Romeo’s absolutely AMAZING characteristics. Romeo is so friendly and loves any and all humans he meets and encounters. But Romeo absolutely needs a human that is strong, assertive, and understanding. Romeo needs human that, until we have more information… can understand that he may not be the dog that you can pet for hours on end. Romeo will provide so much love, happiness, and a sense of security to anyone’s home. His mere size would scare off many bad humans or dangers. Romeo would likely do better without a home with kids. He is not aggressive with kids at all. Humans, of any size, bring Romeo happiness and excitement. He doesn’t really seem to understand the concept of a stranger, lol! Due to the things mentioned above, (his size and training needs) a home with kids is not recommended. He simply needs all humans to respect his boundaries.

Due to the behaviors we have seen, as well as some noticeable physical characteristics, we believe Romeo may have some underlying medical issues that need treatment. We have X-rays and a checkup appointment set up for Romeo. We anticipate the bill being a minimum of $200 (an updated receipt of his first medical bill, appt July 8th, will be posted in this GoFundMe!)

Second of all, we need funding for Romeo’s current boarding situation. The wonderful human, Josette, is currently funding Romeo’s boarding costs. It was originally intended to be a 3 day situation with $40 a night. Josette has since paid $40 a night for about 1 week. The boarding humans have lowered the rate to $20, as they want to make sure Romeo continues to get the best care he needs in order to hopefully end up in the best forever place as possible. The humans that are boarding Romeo also happen to be Foster’s to many dogs and cats, but they run a business. They are doing their very best to balance business and helping this pup. But ultimately cannot house Romeo for long term, as a foster per se. We need to obtain $500 for Romeo’s boarding costs.

We won’t go into too much details, publicly, on the dramatic details of Romeo’s past. There appears to have been a web of lies or withholding of the truth about Romeo’s past… which has now led him into this predicament. Regardless of Romeo’s past, we are focused on his future and making sure his next place… is his last. We need YOUR help on funding his present and future. Romeo is an amazing dog… that has luckily landed in the right place (at the wrong time). And Josette and his village will stop at nothing to find him a special place!

Will you help us raise a minimum of $700 to cover his medical and boarding costs? This amazing and beautiful dog’s life is depending on it. With these funds, Romeo’s village will be able to fund his medical and boarding costs.

In order to meet our fundraising goal, it will truly take a village. Are you able to support this incredible cause? Any amount you can contribute will make a difference—even $5.
Thank you for reading about our latest mission, and please reach out if you’d like to learn more and get involved with our fundraising efforts.
