Hi, my name is Roman Pemberton, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do — ask for help.
For over 40 years, I worked in NASCAR, dedicating my life to a sport I love. I’ve always been a provider, a worker, someone who shows up and pushes through. But now, I’m at a point where I truly need help.
⸻
Health Struggles:
I suffered two strokes, both related to high blood pressure. The most recent one happened because I couldn’t afford my medication. I lost my insurance, couldn’t afford a doctor visit, and was denied a refill because it had been more than six months since my last checkup. Not having $200 for an appointment turned into a medical emergency.
That’s a scary and helpless place to be — and it could’ve been avoided.
⸻
Personal Loss & Grief:
In the middle of all this, I’ve faced deep personal tragedy. I lost two of my brothers, a nephew, and my mother, all in a short span. The grief has been overwhelming and has pushed me into a serious depression — but I’ve had to keep pushing forward every day just to survive.
⸻
Single Fatherhood:
I’ve also been a single father to three amazing kids since they were just 5, 6, and 7 years old. It hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade those years for anything. Raising them has been the greatest joy of my life, and I’m incredibly proud of the people they’ve become.
Now that they’re grown, I’m trying to rebuild my own life and health — but I’ve run into a wall.
⸻
Working Nonstop, Still Struggling:
Right now, I’m DoorDashing 7 days a week just to stay afloat, but it barely covers the basics — let alone rent, medical needs, or mental health care. I’m actively looking for better work, but I need a bridge to get there. I’m exhausted, but I’m not giving up.
⸻
Why I’m Asking for Help:
I’ve always taken pride in standing on my own. But between health, grief, and financial hardship, I’m in a place I never expected to be — on the edge of losing everything. I’m asking for help to:
• Keep a roof over my head
• Cover prescriptions and medical care
• Get mental health support I desperately need
• Cover basic daily expenses while I search for stable work
Even the smallest donation helps more than you know. If you can’t give, please consider sharing my story.
Thank you for reading — and thank you for any support you can give.
With gratitude,
Roman Pemberton
