Help Rolandia Get Stem Cell Treatment

On November 6, 2018 at 9:50 am, Rolandia was involved in a single vehicle accident that would forever change her life.
She lost control of her car on hiway 20 just 13kms north of Rimbey. Her dad had taught her to aim for the ditch if something like this was to happen, and she did exactly that. She thought she had regained control of her car until she hit an approach. The vehicle was launched 60ft across the approach. She managed to land on the 4 tires of the car without rolling or hitting any trees. When she came to she called 911 from the scene of the accident she was transferred to Rimbey hospital, then to Royal Alex, then again to the University of Alberta hospital where she received emergency back surgery. She sustained some of the worst fractures to her spine a person can endure. Her T12 vertabre was compressed, and her L1 vertabre was had shattered into pieces, a burst fracture. She also sustained a spinal cord injury around her L2(cuada equina), plus the ability to control some internal organs.
Rolandia then spent the next 3 weeks in the Neurology ICU at the U of A. She had absolutely no control of her legs and had little to no feeling below the knees and can not feel or move her feet.
On November 27, 2018 she was flown to Calgary to start rehabilitation at Foothills hospital and remained there learning to walk and care for herself, until January 23, 2019. She then returned home to face the world, but this time she was coming home in a wheelchair.
Rolandia started physiotherapy in mid February but has suffered continuous sets backs because of the loss of sensation in her feet. She has received electrical burns to the bottoms of her toes, 2nd degree burns from water on her left foot, and now more recently a huge blister from her braces, it wore a huge hole in the bottom of her right foot, and therefore has to stay off her feet as much as possible.
Since she has started physio she has made some progress,  advancing from her wheelchair, to a walker now to forearm crutches and braces.  Without feeling in her feet and most of her leg muscles paralyzed, walking takes a lot of energy out of her. Even to do the most simplest of tasks.
In May with the help of insurance Rolandia was able to start driving again with hand modifications to her car. Which has given her back some sense of independence and mobility.
When Rolandia returned home from the hospital she began researching Stem Cell Therapy and research studies. In May she was conditionally accepted to participate in one stem cell transplant study at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Unfortunately due to Alberta Health Care’s careless record keeping on her medical records she was denied. Which shattered her. From the research Rolandia has put into Stem Cell therapy there has been many positives about this kind of treatment. Unfortunately,  it is not offered in Canada to spinal cord injuries. She learned that this type of therapy will help with her pain, regain muscle control and help rebuild muscles, regain sensation and motor movement to her feet, and help regain control of internal organs.
The clinics that offer stem cell therapies are based in the States, Costa Rica, Panama, China and Thailand and are very costly. Insurance doesn't help with this kind of treatment because in Canada it is considered experimental and in fact most studies have been shut down here.
I know Rolandia, and how driven, active and independent this woman is. She has a love of the outdoors, such as camping, quadding, horseback riding and her career. Her quality of life since the accident has greatly depreciated and spends most of her days inside. She has dealt with this setback as best as she knows how. But, it seems everything she does to try to help herself is a brick wall.  I want her to get through this and see her succeed. There has been so much advancement with the help of stem cell therapy that it would help her attain the goal of walking without any aids. The pain she endures everyday is debilitating and if bad enough it will set her back a day or two.
So, I ask that with your help with any donations would be greatly appreciated so we may get this treatment and help her to live a meaningful life, a life she can participate in.
