Help Roger Recover: Our Family's Heroic Dog

Donation protected
We are a family of 6 (including our sweet 1 year old golden doodle). On November 28th we were out on a family scooter ride/dog walk and when we got home our nightmare started. In our front yard our family noticed two dogs coming straight for us. One was a pit bull mix and one a terrier mix. A nearby neighbor left the door open. As I screamed for my husband to get my kids inside the two dogs were already on our property. Roger was attacked as we were attempting to get the kids to safety. 5 neighbors couldn’t pull the pit bull mix off of Roger’s neck. Our children screamed from inside the house watching the dog die. Our dog was freed from a neighbor literally choking the offending dog and spraying him with water to release his mouth from Roger’s neck. Roger had to be intubated and go to the emergency vet to save his life. He had lacerations to his neck, ears, his ear was torn off, and his mouth was bleeding. The bill for the first visit was $2100. Yesterday 12/1 Roger’s sutures on his neck became open and he had to return to surgery for two drain placements for an additional $500. I believe Roger is our hero because with a 3 and 4 year old outside I’m not sure if he didn’t take the dogs on they wouldn’t have tried to kill or hurt our children. The emergency vets would not complete care without full payment… a payment that for a family of 5 was devastating.

I’m the only working family member and every month is budgeted and hard. We took our rent money and paid to have our dog taken care of because he took care of us and is our family member. The people who’s dogs attacked have moved out abruptly in 2 days. Come to find out our leasing office also knew of a previous attack by the same dog (who lived across the street) and did not disclose it to the community on November 16th.

I’m just asking for some help to reimburse Roger’s bills because it’s already a very hard time with Christmas I would like to not be evicted while trying to also save my dogs life. Roger is so loving. He lets the kids lay on him, he cuddles with them, plays chase, he loves our children. He saved them and I believe that. It was traumatizing and we are just struggling. I’ve never done anything like this and I’m a registered nurse that literally works extra shifts all the time to provide. I just would like to be able to pay my rent and give my children Christmas and provide Roger with everything he needs to get better.
