Roger has been a part of the Canyon, Texas community for over 40 years, always offering support and kindness to those around him. In December 2025, he lost his partner Mardee, and now, just months later, he faces another devastating loss. The Hungate Fire burned his home to the ground, leaving him with nothing but the clothes on his back, his loyal dog Lavern, and his car. His home was uninsured, so there will be no additional help to rebuild or recover what was lost.
Roger is currently caring for Donna Thoroughman, an elderly friend of the family, and any funds raised will also be used to help care for her. The immediate needs are basic necessities for Roger and Lavern, as well as support to begin clearing the property and rebuilding a safe place to call home. Roger has always been there for his neighbors, and now he needs the community’s help more than ever.
He is asking for anything that might help—whether it’s helping hands, funds, or kind words. Every bit of support will make a difference as Roger works to rebuild his life and continue caring for Donna. Thank you for considering a donation or sharing this fundraiser. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to Roger and those he cares for.
Ross Wilson, son to Roger, and Jules (Ross's wife) are managing this GoFundMe as Roger is in the thick of the cleanup and rebuilding process. The funds generously given will be used to get semi-permanent housing for both Roger and Donna durring the cleanup and rebuilding process; replacements for basic necessities such as food and clothing; getting new essential documents like birth certificates, deeds, and veteran documents; any costs to finish putting out the fires on property such as fire suppression or extinguishers; cost for clean up; and costs to build a new permanent home. Roger's son, Ross, has access to his account and we will deposit the donations directly to Roger's account.
