My name is Shawnalee Hitt. My cousins Brian, Shannon and I are in need of your help. My uncle Roger, Brian and Shannon's dad, lost his home and everything in it due to fire.
During the storms that resulted from Helene, he was without power for several days and had to use generators to run the necessities. Unfortunently, one of the generators caught fire and was not able to be contained. With no power, no cell service and land lines down, there was no way to call for emergency services and Roger and a neighbor had to drive for help. When they returned, it was too late and the building was in ashes.
Roger's home was known as the "old blue building" to the locals of rural Matoaka, West Virginia. Roger's dream was to turn the old blue building into a one stop shop for local ATV riders who came to explore the local trails. Unfortunently, Roger has some serious health issues and was forced to shut down the store and focus on his health. During that time, the insurance on the building also lapsed and there was no coverage in place for the property or the contents.
My uncle is a retired Army vet and the proud recipient of a Purple Heart from his heroic actions in Vietnam and he is one of the most humble and proud men I know. He is the first to offer to help someone, and the last to ask for it. Our family knows how heavy this is weighing on his heart and we do not want to add any additional stress on top of the health struggles he faced earlier this year. We are hoping the community can band together and show up for him the way he has shown up for so many.
While the Old Blue Building cannot be restored or replaced, with your help, we can help him start to rebuild his life.
Please consider donating. Every dollar helps!! If you have any questions or if you are local and would like to make physical donation, please reach out via message to myself or Shannon. Shannon will be handling all funds received for her dad and will make sure he has everything he needs.
The Old Blue Building will be missed by many locals and trail riders, but no one will miss it more than Roger himself.
Please donate!!
