On September 22nd, during a powerful lightning storm, our neighbors Rodrick and Courtney experienced something no family is truly ever prepared for. While working from home, they were jolted by a lightning strike that hit their house directly. The shock was immediate and terrifying. They ran to each other to make sure they were both okay, but within moments Courtney smelled smoke. Rodrick stepped outside and saw smoke rising from the roof.
Rodrick told his wife Courtney to call 911 and their neighbor Reese, who had witnessed the strike, rushed over to help. Rodrick and Reese tried to reach the attic to contain the fire, but the smoke was too overwhelming. Rodrick yelled for Courtney to get out, grabbed their dog, and they both drove their cars to Reese’s house for safety.
Thankfully, everyone is safe. Rodrick and Courtney’s daughter Saniyah and their son Lincoln were not harmed, and the family is now staying in an Airbnb through Sunday. After that, they are unsure where they will go next.
They’ve picked up a few essentials from Target including undergarments, shorts, and t-shirts. Their son Lincoln is ten years old and wears size 10 to 12 boys with an XL shirt. Saniyah is very particular about what she wears, so the family plans to shop for her once things settle down to avoid anything going to waste.
Rodrick and Courtney are incredibly grateful for any support that the community is able to help provide. This GoFundMe is a way to help them rebuild, replace what was lost, and find stability after such a traumatic event. Every donation, share, and kind message makes a difference.
Thank you for standing with this wonderful family as they begin the long road to recovery.
