Help Rodney Humes Rebuild His Life After a Devastating Car Accident

My name is Taylor Rouse and I am a lawyer at Ryan & Rouse in Huntsville, Alabama. Our firm represents Rodney Humes, who is the most resilient person I have ever met, given his circumstances. But Rodney needs help — all the help he can get.

On September 24, 2024, Rodney was a passenger in a car that was involved in a T-bone collision. Neither Rodney nor the driver of his car were at fault; the other driver failed to yield and blew through an intersection.

Rodney suffered catastrophic injuries. He broke his neck and was immediately rendered quadriplegic – he has no movement or feeling below his neck. His condition is permanent, and he will be bed-bound for the rest of his life.

For the past six months, Rodney has laid in his hospital bed and required almost constant care. He now faces significant challenges as he prepares to transition back to living outside of the hospital.

Rodney's sister, Pearline, wants to bring him home and provide full-time care. However, the costs of necessary home modifications and medical equipment are substantial, overwhelming, and go far, far beyond what the family can afford. And the individual that hit Rodney – who walked away with little more than a scratch – had inadequate liability insurance, and what’s available will probably entirely go to paying Rodney’s substantial hospital bills (which increase by the day).

We are representing Rodney at no cost, and we are now asking for community support to help ease Rodney’s financial burden. Any donation, regardless of size, will make a difference, and every dollar raised will be used to improve his quality of life and support his journey toward independence.
