Hello friends and family. My sweet nephew, Cayden, is back in the hospital at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Dallas FW for an expected/unexpected heart surgery.

Expected because we always knew (and hoped) he’d grow, and outgrow his replaced aortic valve.

Unexpected because we didn’t know it would be this soon and his heart be so sick when it was needed. His parents and siblings all caught COVID recently and while everyone got over it fast, Cayden did not. COVID really sped things up. Krystal noticed his belly looked swollen and it turned out to be extra fluid caused by his sweet heart failing. After a stay in NOLA, prayers and debating the best course, they made it to Cooks again where Dr. Tam and his team know his specific heart/past surgeries, and Rodney and Krystal have tremendous trust from the beginning. Now they are awaiting an aortic valve replacement on a very complex heart.

For those who do not know, Cayden has hypoplastic left heart syndrome and he’s already undergone SO many surgeries to reroute his heart to function with one ventricle. He is a miracle. He’s almost died several times, has overcome the biggest pulmonary embolism I have ever seen, watershed strokes, and subsequent seizures since he was born. You would never know it. He is literally a miracle and God has been so good. He doesn’t look as sick as he is and he’s the fastest and funniest kid you’ll meet, and I pray he’s a fast and funny old man one day.

We are starting gofundme to help my favorite brother and his sweet family with some of this unimaginable burden of having to pick up and go quickly. They will be at Cooks for at least 5 weeks and have applied for Ronald McDonald housing, but as of now it is full. Thank you SO much especially for your prayers.
