My name is Diana and I live in Sebastian, Florida. I have volunteered to house Rodney and Ernestine Bootle from Marsh Harbor, Abaco to help them recover from Hurricane Dorian. I will provide for their needs while they are here. (Clothing, hygiene, food, entertainment….). So, the funds raised will not go to their daily living needs. This will be 100% for their new life back home. The biggest help I can provide for them is money. I have never met Rodney and Ernestine, and they came to me through a mutual friend that was trying to place them in a safe home. I have spoken with them on the phone every day since I agreed to have them come live with me.
Rodney and Ernestine lost their home due to Hurricane Dorian. The devastation has been documented far and wide and is beyond anything a family should endure. They lost their home, they lost their livelihood, they lost everything... They are unable to live in their hometown and unable to work there. They almost lost their lives when their house began to crumble during the Category 5 Hurricane. Rodney told me he is “so grateful to be alive”
Someone has been kind enough to pay for a hotel room until October 3rd. They will come stay after that... indefinitely..
My thoughts are that they will be able to go back to their country if I can raise enough money for them. ALL money raised will go directly to Rodney and Ernestine to help them return home!!
I have asked them many times what I can do to help and they just want to be able to earn money to go home. They are proud people and do not want the charity. Their hearts are big and their character is undeniable. My goal is to provide enough money that they will be able to comfortably find a new place to live and work in The Bahamas. They have a young adult son (same age as my son, Curtis) who is already working and providing money to them to get by at their current living situation. They desperately want to be self-sufficient and it pains them to rely on others for help.
My goal is BIG! I’ve never felt stronger that the right thing to do is help. And the greatest help will be funds. This family will NOT take advantage of your charity and will be forever grateful.
Any donation would be helpful. $5, $10, $100, $1,000 or more! It will add up! The funds will initially go into my personal account. I will pass these funds on to Rodney and Ernestine once the campaign is closed in the form of a check.
Go big, go little, just give!
Thank you to all who are willing to help!
PS: I don’t know “why” this family matched with me when I reached out to help, but I suspect it wasn’t random! I know in my heart they are the perfect match and I am going to do whatever I can to make this happen for them.
