Hi friends! It’s Molly and Emily. In case you don’t know us, we are Rod’s sister-in-laws.
In January of 2025, Rod was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a disease which affects the nervous system. In his case, Rod has been suffering with vision loss, pain, impaired coordination, brain fog, and trouble walking.
If you know our guy Rod, you know this has been extremely difficult. The guy who loves Da Bears and the Mets. The guy who loves going to the mall for a new hat every week. The guy always willing to go try a new brewery. His wife, Mel, and him have always been an active couple. Going to fun new restaurants. Hanging out at friends houses. Seeing movies. Going to concerts. Always being the best uncle and aunt kids could ask for. The best brother in law. The best husband. The best friend. The disease has made it a struggle to do much of anything. So Rod is mostly confined to the house. It’s really rocked our world.
Rod and Mel have been navigating this diagnosis pretty silently, not wanting to ask for much from anyone. But the disease seems to be rapidly getting worse and making their day to day tasks extremely difficult. As of this week the most basic necessity, showering, has become too hard. Stepping in and out of the bathtub just isn’t viable at this point. So we are here asking for help in order to buy and have a walk-in tub/shower installed, along with a small bathroom remodel to make it easier to navigate. Plus help with medical expenses that seems to just keep piling up. As Rod is unable to continue working, Mel has become the sole provider. Anything extra would help to make sure she can take time off work for appointments/therapy/and infusions.
As a guy who would do ANYTHING for those he loves, and often even strangers, we kindly ask you for anything you can do to help. Anyone who knows him knows he has a heart of gold. His kindness, generosity, and love deserve all that and more back.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
