This is a love story; about hopes, dreams, child birth and illness.
In November 2013, I found out that I was pregnant. In any other story this would have been a time to be supper happy, excited for what the future will hold; but for us, the story get distorted.
In January 2014, a few days before my husband's birthday, he began having chest pains while he was driving his big rig. (He had been driving across country for 7 yrs). Rocky came home and I took him to 24 Hour Urgent Care. After examining him, they decided to transfer him to Kingwood Medical Center because they thought he had pneumonia. After three days in the hospital, he was discharged. Once we got home, he had to return to the hospital because he was still having severe chest pain. Many test were given and they all came negative. Once the chest pain subsided, they sent him home once again.
In February 2014, he went back to the hospital. He continually got worse. One day, he had spiking fever of 104 and they'd attend to him to get the fever down. He was then transferred to the ICU where he was on constant oxygen. While his condition got worse, Rocky noticed his eyesight is getting blurry. He went into coma for two days. We then transferred Rocky to Houston Medical Center. Once there, Rocky's organs began failing. He had kidney failure, had memory loss and totally loss his eyesight. The doctors finally diagnosed Rocky's condition as Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. It is a rare, life-threatening disease . Once diagnosed, we had to play the waiting game for the insurance to approve the medication that will save his life. Rocky was placed on dialysis, plasma exchange and constant blood transfusion every other day. Rocky stayed in the ICU until April when he began to stabilize.
In April 2014, Rocky was transferred to Kindred in Houston Medical Center. He still needed constant monitoring from doctors/nurses and dialysis every other day. He was in the hospital for 3 months. Meanwhile, I was 5 months pregnant, taking care of my husband in the hospital. We drained our savings paying our monthly bills while neither of us are working. We decided it was wise to move back to California to be by family. We sold everything we had and bought plane ticket going to California.
Although we were making monthly payments to our medical insurance company, they told us they were going to drop us and to find another insurance company. Luckily, we were approved quickly for Medical because neither of us are working.

We now live in California but Rocky still need to take soliris infusions and gets lab work every two weeks for the rest of his life. This treatment is extremely expensive, it cost $118,000 a shot.
Rocky and I are happy to say that he got approved for stem cell treatment for his optic nerve atrophy. This stem cell treatment will give him a chance to see once again, return to being a truck driver so he can support his family once again, and most importantly see the son he has never seen, and see his daughter and son that are growing up so quickly.
In order to get the stem cell treament we must travel to Thailand. The cost are prohibitive for us to pay so we are asking for support from all those who can find it in their hearts to help us achieve this fundraising goal of 30,000
The funds will help pay for:
Stem cell treatment(includes 14 days of hospital stay) $25,500
Air line tickets $1,500
Food for the caregiver $100
Hotel stay for the caregiver $300
Transportation for the caregiver 100
Total funds needed. $27, 500
Once again, please help us achive this goal for Rocky so he can get his stem cell treatment for life improvement but mostly so he can see his children grow up. Thank you to all the support for our fund raising goal.
We humbly ask for you to help make this possible.
