On Saturday, August 9, our hearts broke when my brother, Ricky Grabow, and sister-in-law, Leah Grabow, experienced unimaginable loss. Their home in West Allis was hit by a catastrophic flood, leaving it essentially 11 feet underwater.

The entire basement, which housed finished living space, was completely destroyed—along with Ricky’s childhood memories, treasured family photos, his late father’s belongings, his home office, and his beloved Green Bay Packers collectibles. The first floor also took in more than 18 inches of water, making the damage impossible to repair.

To make matters worse, their homeowner’s insurance will not cover any of the damage, and FEMA assistance is not yet available since the area has not been declared an emergency zone. This leaves Ricky and Leah with no financial support to rebuild their home.

In the days following the flood, they are staying temporarily in an Airbnb in West Allis, but their first night without a home was spent sleeping on the floor of Ricky’s gym, Peak Physique—a place where he has poured his heart and soul into building a welcoming fitness community. The price of an Airbnb is not sustainable. We don't know what the next steps will be.

Ricky and Leah are the kind of people who give so much to others without hesitation. They are active, generous members of their community, always ready to help someone in need. Now, it’s our turn to lift them up.

While belongings can be replaced, home is irreplaceable. The emotional toll of losing it all—paired with the uncertainty of where to go next—is overwhelming. We are beyond grateful that Ricky, Leah, and their two dogs are safe, but they face an uphill battle to recover and rebuild as their homeowner's policy is not covering anything.
