Rocky who is usually energetic, happy, and incredibly playful has been very sick for the past week. Rocky has been vomiting constantly and hasn’t been able to eat or keep anything down. Watching him go through this has been heartbreaking and scary.

We took Rocky to the emergency vet, where they determined he needs an abdominal X-ray with sedation to find out what’s wrong. There is also a chance he may require surgery, depending on what they find. Everything is happening so fast, and the medical costs are adding up quickly.

Unfortunately, I was laid off in August due to my workplace completely closing, so money is extremely tight right now. I’m doing everything I can for Rocky, but I can’t do this alone. UPDATE: The vets have found a small object that is blocking and damaging Rocky’s small intestines. Because of this, Rocky must undergo emergency surgery as soon as possible. While this is terrifying, we’re hopeful this surgery will save his life.

With the surgery and continued care, the total cost has now reached approximately $8,000. This is an overwhelming amount, especially given my recent layoff, but I cannot give up on Rocky. He deserves every chance to recover and come home healthy.

Update:

We were able to call around and found another veterinarian for a second opinion. They agreed that surgery may still be necessary if the object does not pass on its own by tonight. For now, they are monitoring Rocky overnight and will perform another X-ray in the morning to see if there has been any movement.

If the blockage has not moved, surgery will unfortunately be required. This clinic has estimated the cost to be between $4,000–$5,000, which is still overwhelming but more manageable than our original estimate.
